Nomad Feasts Marcona Almonds from Spain

The Marcona almond is the “Queen of Almonds” and Spain is the only source of Marcona almonds in the world.

They are shorter, rounder, softer, sweeter, and more delicate in texture than other varieties.

Marcona almonds are especially appreciated when served with Spanish cheese.

Our marcona almonds are roasted in extra virgin olive oil and then sprinkled with sea salt. A very small amount of the oil remains on the almonds to help maintain their freshness and maximum flavour.

Marcona almonds are traditionally served as they are or with Mojama (air-dried tuna loin) and anywhere else a high quality nut is needed.

Don’t confuse them with their American cousins which have quite a different flavour. Marcona almonds are

smooth, with a sweet delicate taste. The 2.2 pound bag is the perfect size for almond lovers.

Unlike the California almonds with which you may be familiar, with their light brown porous shells, Marcona almonds have a protective hard shell that resists insects. For this reason they may be grown naturally with no need for herbicides.

Spaniards covet them for many of their traditional gourmet treats so the supply is a bit limited. And, Marconas are scarce because the trees are early bloomers, making them especially vulnerable to late spring frosts. The small groves are found along the Mediterranean coasts of Spain — from the southern coast of Málaga then to the East up the Mediterranean coast to Tarragona.

Almonds are one of the healthiest snacks. The nutrient density is high so a small portion provides substantial nutrients. They have a high content of cholesterol-fighting mono unsaturated oil.
